A Letter Found In Alley-With No Name On It

It all started one afternoon in the late Spring,  A 64 year widow woman, was forced to leave her home after she received a foreclosure  notice. She could not sell everything in her home, so she packed two shopping bags with some photos, legal documents and a couple of blankets, with no where to go, she headed to town. She left with only $100.00 in her purse and it was going to be another 14 days before she would have her $229.00 Social Security. Night arrived and she had to find a place to sleep. She noticed a hollowed out push, she crawled into it and made herself a bed. She cried herself to sleep, she woke before the sun was up. Packed up her bedroll and headed to a local fast food, ordered a cup of coffee and a breakfast sandwich. After her small breakfast she headed to the streets to begin her new life.

Now the horror began for this poor woman.  She went to the fast food she has been going to for the past several days. Not being able to clean herself up properly and people started noticing she was wearing the same clothes and carrying the same bags, she was told to leave. She asked, "Why? What did I do wrong?". They responded, Get Out! We don't allow your kind in here. This is a place for people to enjoy a meal. She left crying, repeating over and over..."Why? What did I do wrong?". As she was walking down the sidewalk, she was hit by a bicycle, the teenager on the bike began to yell at her for not watching where she was going.  There was such a disturbance that the police were called. The police ask what happened? She tried to respond, they told her to shut up they were talking to the boy. He began to tell them she was in the way as he was riding his bike down the sidewalk and he hit her.  They told her to move on, she replied, I can't my foot hurts, they told her to move or go to jail. She forced herself up gathered her belongs, started to cry saying "Why? What did I do wrong?". So upset and in pain, she did not eat that night, waited till after dark and crawled back into her new home.  As usual she cried herself to sleep, repeating "Why? What did I do wrong?". ke again the next morning, before the sun was up, packed her bedroll and headed to the streets. Tired scared and alone, she wandered up and down the streets for hours. Finally decided to rest on a bench, after about 10 minutes she was yelled at by a young couple, move your not wanted here. She replied, "Why? What did I do wrong?" They said leave or we will call the police.  She left crying asking herself, "Why? What did I do wrong?". By now it was night and she made her way back to her new home. Same routine, unpacked her bedroll and cried repeating "Why? What did I do wrong?".

The next morning before sun up she packed her bedroll and headed to a different fast food, her Social Security was in.  She waited in line to order, when it was her turn to order, she was told she had to leave. She replied, "Why? What did I do?". Same answer she has been getting for the past few days. Get Out!  Your kind is not welcome here.  She left crying, saying "Why? What did I do wrong?".  She wandered into a local coffee shop, this is where I met her for the first time. I asked what was wrong, she turned away with her face looking down and said "I did not do anything wrong all I want is some coffee".  I told her I will get some for her. When we got her coffee, I said why don't you sit with us.  She hesitated, but agreed. My wife was not sure what was going on, I asked her to explain what she was saying when she came in.  After hearing her story, we were very saddened as to how she has been treated during the last two weeks. I told my wife we need to take her to the hospital to have her foot checked. After three hours, we find out her foot has been broken and she has been walking on it.  We leave the hospital and take her to dinner, all the way there she cried and said "Why? What did I do wrong?"

My wife and I spent every day for the next 3 weeks with her to help her make it.  Then one day she was gone, no word. We began to get worried, started asking around town, no one knew anything on this poor, lonely homeless woman, or did they?

Times were hard for us and we could not afford our rent, my unemployment ran out 4 months back and my wives 2 months ago.

Now we cry ourselves to sleep at night hiding in a bush, hoping not to be seen...... saying: "Why? What did we do wrong?"
